Keynote: Enabling Zero Power Pervasive Intelligence for Sustainable Sensing
Speaker: Kasım Sinan Yıldırım (University of Trento)Abstract: How can we unlock the potential of embedded intelligence, the leading disruptive technology today, by combining it with batteryless computing—the future of eco-friendly, energy-autonomous systems? Unlike conventional battery-powered platforms, batteryless edge devices are extremely resource- and energy-constrained, posing a substantial challenge for enabling zero-power embedded intelligence. In this talk, I will delve into this challenge by outlining the essential problems regarding three main pillars forming a batteryless intelligence ecosystem: hardware architectures, intelligence algorithms, and networked solutions. I will also explore potential future avenues of research to overcome these limitations, paving the way for a zero-power, pervasive intelligence ecosystem.
Biography: Kasim Sinan Yildirim is an Associate Professor at the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science, University of Trento, Italy. His research interests revolve around low-power and networked embedded sensing systems, with a specific focus on software systems and programming support for intermittent computing, hardware support for batteryless computing, transiently-powered networking, and tiny machine learning on the batteryless edge. He has authored several publications in prestigious journals and conferences, including SenSys, EuroSys, ASPLOS, UbiComp, and OSDI. He serves on the technical program committees of several conferences including EMSOFT, DATE, and NSDI.
